Defense Travel System Case Study

QPX™ Effortlessly Supports the Defense Department's Complex Business Rules and Travel Policies

When the United States Department of Defense (DoD) wanted to upgrade their integrated and automated travel management system, DTS -- they chose ITA Software’s comprehensive airfare pricing and shopping solution, QPX™.

QPX gives DTS travelers real-time availability data for flight schedules and fares, displaying this information in a single screen with all the details necessary to select, approve, and book the ticket. QPX also ensures that the results are displayed in a consistent manner, across all GDSs.

Most importantly, QPX combines low fare search capabilities with robust and configurable search parameters. This makes it easy for DTS travelers to get the lowest fare available – while making certain that each itinerary returned adheres to the DoD’s complex business rules and travel policies – including military fares, the GSA City Pair Program, the Fly America Act, and other government negotiated fares.

To help the DoD improve compliance with The Fly America Act, ITA and the DoD developed a customized filter that automates key elements of the Fly America Act. It ensures that only US-flag carrier itineraries are returned when they are available. This filter has made it easier for DTS travelers to find Fly America Act fares and has dramatically increased program compliance.

QPX provides DTS travelers with a more expansive set of results than they previously had -- while giving the DoD an easy-to-configure, automated travel management solution that consistently returns program-compliant fares.
