Marketing Analysis and Strategy for Novel Semantic Web Technologies

ITA has sponsored an internal research project combining innovations in web-scraping, data integration, and the Semantic Web. This effort has proven its technical feasibility and is now seeking a business strategist to develop the business model and marketing strategy for a novel public website.

Responsibilities:

Market Research and Competitive Intelligence

• Develop a thorough understanding of the Semantic Web space, its evolution, its players, and its potential business models.
• Implement a process for constant monitoring of markets, metrics, and trends that may affect product development requirements.
• Evaluate business and technology partnership opportunities. Drive negotiations with prospective partners.

Revenue Planning

• Develop revenue models to maximize product profitability, including but not limited to advertising-supported web pages, commissions and affiliate programs, subscription services, “pro” accounts, and corporate Intranet installations.
• Develop pilot programs to evaluate the potential of alternative models.
• Evaluate external market data (demand trends, industry dynamics and competitive information) as well as internal company data to quantify revenue estimates.
• Set pricing for products and/or services.
• Develop revenue projections based on market research.
• Attend industry trade shows, conferences and meetings.

Qualifications:

• Experience with high-volume, revenue-generating public websites.
• Experience with Semantic Web, Web 3.0, web search, or social networking concepts desirable.

Special Knowledge/Skills Required:

• Ability to solve business and market related problems with innovation. Superior business case modeling skills.
• Insights into markets and customers.
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (written & verbal). Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Strong quantitative and financial skills.
• Results-oriented.
