Abstract The temperature in one of the labs is extremely high, smoke is filling the east wing of the building and there are students running west through the main corridor on the other side of the building. What happened? What's next? What should you be worried about? And most importantly, how are you going to get everyone to safety?
It's the traveling salesman problem with a twist. Destinations may be time sensitive, paths may become toxic and traffic jams are a major problem. It's a tale of simulations, experts systems, mesh network sensor arrays and location based ID badges. Even with 5 minutes advanced notice, you still need to see 5 minutes into the future to succeed.
Location, Location, Location is a presentation that details the trials and tribulations of Comnetrix's EvacuSafe project and its SpatialMesh technology. Fire drills were never like this.
Bio Kevin McCabe, a Comnetrix founder and co-designer of SpatialMesh is a serial entrepreneur who sold his first startup to Houghton Mifflin while still in college. Apparently not one to learn from his mistakes, he continued on in technology, and has brought successful products to market in everything from enterprise networking to shrink-wrap retail software in every role from architect to business manager. He is currently VP of Strategy and Business Development for QuantumID, a venture backed maker of secure RF information hardware tags. Last Wednesday he was also the security guru.
